I was watching "Say Anything" this weekend and came to a conclusion. Perhaps you can hurry love. You can't force it, of course, and still true love takes time to delvelop. But, still...
I mean, in "Say Anything" John Cusak falls for the valadictorian, who he's never really talked to before. He's watched her eat across from him in the mall and has met her a couple of times, but he really doesn't know her. At least, that is, he hasn't spent a lot of time with her. She doesn't even know who he is. But he wants to go out with her, so he calls. And she says yes, simply "because he made (her) laugh". She really likes him because she feels like herself around him, and is happy and at ease. They talk all the time, but because of her life she decides that they should be friends. But that doesn't last long - they're in love. Maybe ideals aren't everything. Maybe we plan on our love lives going a certain way. Maybe all that we need is someone who makes us laugh, makes us happy and feel ourselves. Someone we can talk to all the time and tell the truth to - when we've had a bad day, we say so. And they sympathise with us. Let us vent and then maybe just hold us. Of course, we agree on the main things in life (religion, moral standards....etc)...but we don't need the tall, deep-blue eyed, dashingly scruffy, accented songwriter who earns as much as a doctor. Maybe from the very first, there's just something enticing & enchanting about the one we're meant to love...something that makes us feel like we don't need to put on any pretenses....
Maybe you can't hurry love....but, maybe, that's because love hurries itself.
